Our Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Community Canine (Advanced CGC), and Urban Canine Good Citizen classes are presented as part of the American Kennel Club (AKC) Family Dog Program.
The AKC developed this program over 20 years ago upon recognizing that there was a need for a certification recognizing basic good behavior from family pets. The program began with the Canine Good Citizen test and has since expanded to include STAR Puppy, CGC, Community Canine, and Urban CGC.
While dogs taking these classes are not required to test for the AKC title, it is encouraged. The skills taught are focused on being a responsible handler and canine citizen in the community, beyond simply being a good dog at home. The Community Canine and Urban CGC classes are held offsite in order to expose the dogs to new training environments.
Training your dog in these skills will allow for easier visits in public places such as parks, stores,
athletic events, etc.
